EDUCATION
India has the largest youth population in the world with half of its people below the age of 28.5 years, and access of quality education and skill to them is must for their stable life, promising and secure future, realize their dream and their contribution for the sustainable development of the nation and for the social harmony and peace. Though the state and central government has taken several initiatives to make quantitative and qualitative improvements but the following facts on primary, secondary, higher, vocational and adult education and skill development in India are not satisfactory. On an average dropout rate in school children are approximately 6, 25 and 30 percent in elementary, secondary and senior secondary education. Only 74 percent adults are literate.
A weak foundation in primary and secondary education and skill development can derail the lives, careers, and productivity of hundreds of thousands of its citizens. We all should contribute our part in improving the education and skill development systems to ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education and all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable lifestyles and development, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity as envisaged in United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
